GREENWICH, CT — Ray Dalio thanked everyone for their love and support in the wake of his son, Devon's, sudden death in a motor vehicle accident earlier this month.

Devon Dalio, 42, was killed when his car crashed into the Verizon store in the Thruway Shopping Center. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by police.

In a series of posts on social media, Ray Dalio, who is the founder of Westport-based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, released the following statement:

"My family and I wish we could personally thank each and every one of you who shared your caring and condolences for our loss. While I knew about the power of love I had no idea what a healing effect it would have.

"And I had no idea that we could build such relationships as we have on social media. You are good, kind people who I admire and feel that I have a meaningful relationship with.

"For me our interactions were a good reminder of the healing and strengthening power of love and empathy as compared with the destructive power of hate and lack of empathy, especially at this time when hate and lack of empathy are on the ascent. Thank you for all of this.

"Please excuse me for not further exchanging thoughts with you at this time as I need the time for quiet reflection with my family. I expect to reengage after the holidays," Ray Dalio concluded in a series of tweets.

Devon is the Co-Founder of P-Squared Management Enterprises, a private equity firm that is focused on small and mid-market healthcare technology companies. Prior to starting this endeavor, Devon was Co-CEO of the Dalio Family Office for eight years.

Earlier in his career, he worked at Bridgewater Associates. Devon served on the board of the Dalio Philanthropies and his philanthropic interests have included health and wellness, veteran support, disaster relief and animal welfare, according to his family. Devon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Lafayette College. He is survived by his wife and young daughter.

Police have said that Devon Dalio died after his vehicle, a 2016 Audi, crashed into the Verizon store at 1233 East Putnam Avenue. Devon's vehicle drove over a parking strip, mounted the curb and crashed through the front doors, then traveled completely into the store, police said.

When officers arrived at the shopping center, the store was completely engulfed in smoke, which prevented officers from reaching the inside of the store, police said. The Greenwich Fire Department was ultimately able to bring the fire under control.
